Inpainting
Inpainting is AI editing that regenerates a masked region of an image — to remove an object, fix a flaw, or replace part of the picture — while blending with the rest.
With inpainting you mask an area and prompt the model to fill it: erase a photobomber, swap a background, change a product color, or fix a distorted hand. The model regenerates only the masked pixels to match the surrounding image.
Outpainting is the reverse — extending an image beyond its original edges. Both are core to AI photo editing and to adapting one asset into multiple aspect ratios.
